Right, but you would then have to make sure that they use their names. I don't know if I would feel comfortable with that. Otherwise, I could get a whole bunch of people printing out comments by someone else that is "anonymous" or by someone who is not them, but is something like "Pitseleh." I may catch some of them cheating, especially if they give me comments written by me, but there is no way I could verify them all. If it was a smaller class (I have 80 students!), perhaps it would be easier to track this. I guess I'm just not that trusting.

That sounds like a great idea. You could require them to print out their comment here as a way to verify. That's what I did with the extra credit assignments in one of my classes and it seemed to work pretty well.

Could you change my name to be "pitseleh" ... I am trying to maintain semi-anonymity :).

I have a journal that goes with the course -- Idea from olderwoman at scatterplot. Once a week, students have to journal on one blog post -- summarize it, explain course concepts used, and write a reply. I encourage them to reply here too, but don't track that as I wasn't sure how to with any really way to verify. They also have other journal entries -- one on the inauguration and over literature and poetry that they read for class.
