You had recently cited him saying that he isn't a sociologist, he's just an american. Or some such nonsense. I don't think he even knows what he is saying. This of course doesn't excuse him but he simply is parroting what most of the other pundits routinely say when this issue arises. I am quite certain they all keep referring to this particular block of white-racist voters as 'working-class' voters. It has clearly moved into the vernacular of codified words. Colorblind?-Hardly.
