It seems like many of them had the same reaction when I presented them with facts that directly disputed the rumors. It is as if they are incapable of believing anything but their own racist ideas. False beliefs are often easier to imbed both because they are exciting, disturbing, outlandish, and/or emotion-laden -- and because they fit the very old white racial frame.
